Brunch name: The Bangkok Trading Post’s Sunday Brunch – Fashion Series 3

What: The Bangkok Trading Post has been organizing a series of Sunday Brunch revolving around some of the artistic themes the hotel abides by, such as fashion. We visited during the Fashion Series 3, featuring fashion designer Nipon Pila of Pila Studio, who showcased the loose silhouettes and bold colors of its first collection for women. More information on this fashion show, here.

LE Review: Bangkok is a wonderful place for us self-confessed Sunday Bruncheneers – we’re positively spoiled for choice. However, after four years (and a bit) and having tried every possible combination, a sense of ennui has begun to kick in. No longer satisfied with the grandiose ostentatiousness of fine dining, I look for ambiance, atmosphere, and calm. After all, the institution of a fine Sunday brunch was meant for friends, family, and good old wholesome fun.

The holy trinity of fashion, free-styling, and food is a joining that seldom comes to one’s mind on a Sunday afternoon. It’s a rarity that so much thought, effort, and meticulousness could go into a couple of hours, but it works.

Tucked away in the heart of Sukhumvit 39, The Trading Post is hands-down the most impressive Sunday Brunch hotspot I’ve visited for a while. The sister hotel to their Chiang Mai’s boutique resort, 137 Pillars House, it has a getaway-style appeal to it.
Crisp Herringbone floors, solid countertops of cool marble, deep teak wood furnishing, and towering floor to ceiling glass makes this ultra-hip venue worth the visit for your Instagram feed alone. But it isn’t just the decor that grips you. Upon arrival, the fleet of dedicated and knowledgeable staff, whisk you away into a world that is brilliantly manicured and curated. I defy you to leave unimpressed.
The seafood station served all the party favorites: giant prawns, crabs, mussels, and a stunning array of multicolored caviars and roes, to name but a few. As an unashamed fan of all things fruits de la mer, I gorged on the freshness of it all. The salad and cold cuts section of the buffet provided a generous array of continental sausages and juicy and piquant greens. These, of course, need to be sampled to offset any guilt about the richness of the entire affair.

The venue itself is quite intimate, however, they’ve managed to successfully navigate a modest space and incorporated as many varieties of food and styles. For instance, a quick walk to the gorgeous garden and you can sample not only the fresh made-to-order BBQ delicacies on offer but also some freshly made pasta and steak. The buttery freshness of the foie gras was a luxurious mid-meal blessing. I would be lying if I said that I was able to eat everything on offer – I didn’t – but that’s the beauty of this place. It’s the quality that outshines the quantity. There’s definitely something for everyone and the staff is more than happy to accommodate your needs.

Allow me to warn you away, all yee bread and cake lovers. There is a shockingly diverse array of bread, cakes, and sweets that will obliterate any diet. In fact, let me extend this warning to the wine selection. The wine on offer is simply fantastic and the staff is more than happy to provide a pairing; my cup overflowed to near-biblical proportions.

As the fashion show by Pila Studio (a renown Thai designer) progressed, watching the ethereal models saunter in and out, to the sound of live music, I couldn’t help but fall in love the place. My reasons are simple: it’s a family-friendly venue with a great vibe. Especially with the holiday season fast approaching, we all want a home away from home. The Trading Post does this effortlessly and provides an atmosphere that even (dare I say it) money can’t buy.

Since my first visit, I’ve taken friends, family, and colleagues here. The service has been consistently impressive, the atmosphere inviting, and the food is phenomenal. So, I’ll brazenly speak for all when I say that this is now the hottest spot in town – and long may she stay.
