Muay Thai Live: The Legend Lives
Bringing the origins and heroes of Thai kickboxing back to life, “Muay Thai Live: The Legend Lives” (www.muaythailive.net, www.facebook.com/muaythailive.bkk) is an epic live show that captures 300 years of Muay Thai’s history though a combination of hyper-real fights, breathtaking stunts, and sweeping drama.
Created and directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham, celebrated Thai director of the award-winning film “Beautiful Boxer” and the musical hit “Chang & Eng,” the show opened January 22, 2014, at The Stage, Bangkok’s new playhouse at the heart of Asiatique The Riverfront, Asia’s largest lifestyle, dining, and entertainment complex.
“Muay Thai Live: The Legend Lives” conjures up Muay Thai’s greatest heroes, from the origins to present day, in a series of tales artfully woven together. Over the course of the show, the audience witnesses a mysterious stranger defeat champions in “The Tiger in Disguise”; they are amazed at the feats of Nai Khanom Tom, a chained prisoner who faces 10 savage fighters in “The Prisoner With Eight Limbs”; they tremble for General Pichai, who confronts heavily armed warriors with his bare hands in “The Broken Swords”; flash-forwarding to the present, the audience also watches in awe as a kickboxing lover rescues his girlfriend from the grips of thugs— Thai style—in “The Action Hero.” Finally, as the show draws to a close, the spiritual power of Muay Thai and its connection to Thai people is revealed in “Muay Thai Forever.”
The 18-strong cast packs an incredible array of talent, including real-life Muay Thai champs, black belt martial artists, professional stuntmen, extreme sports athletes, and traditional Thai dancers.
To do justice to the world’s most lethal martial art, Master Sane Tubthimtong—one of Thailand’s most respected Muay Thai masters—choreographed the spectacular fight sequences of the show to re-create a wide variety of Muay Thai styles, from the beautifully choreographed Muay Thai Boran of the origins all the way to the modern high-speed, high-impact kickboxing techniques.
Besides dramatic sword fighting, some uncanny free-running moves, and a blend of traditional Thai and modern dance, the show also features a touch of humor and romance. Stay tuned for upcoming shows.

Wines from the Thracian Lowlands Region of Bulgaria, Soon in Thailand
The Regional Vine and Wine Chamber (RVWC), Trakia (www.thracianwine.eu, www.facebook.com/thracianwine), a professional association working on behalf of its members and partners for the promotion of the European wine industry, hosted two wine tastings and presentations in Bangkok and Pattaya recently. The events were a preview of Bulgarian wines from the Trachian region, to be launched in the Thai market in the coming months. Participating wineries are leading brands such as Brestovitsa Winery, Villa Yustina Winery, Yamantievs Winery, and Zagrey Winery, among others.
Thracian tribes from what is now the Thracian Lowland first made wine, called “zelus,” as part of their religious ceremonies to better commune with nature and their deity Bacchus, later called Dionysus. Growing vines as cultivated plants began 5,000 to 6,000 years ago in the areas around the Caspian and Black seas, as well as in Middle Asia, Syria and Mesopotamia. Since then, it has become an important means of living for people on the Balkan Peninsula.

Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky, unveiled the Glenfiddich Anniversary Vintage, an exclusive 25-year-old expression and one of the rarest and finest examples of Glenfiddich’s malt-making expertise, at “Celebrating 125 years of Glenfiddich” in Bangkok.
With only 286 of these bottles released around the world, of which 20 were sent to Asia, five especially numbered bottles were purchased by single malt aficionados for a minimum of USD 1,168 in a silent auction held during the event.
Distilled on Christmas Day in 1987 as part of the single malt’s centenary celebrations, this special release marks 125 years of pioneering whisky making at the Glenfiddich Distillery. It was selected on Christmas Day 2012, the distillery’s 125th anniversary, by founder William Grant’s great-great grandson, Peter Gordon, and his son, Dougal. All 286 bottles of Glenfiddich Anniversary Vintage were taken from just one cask, selected by Glenfiddich Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, and William Grant’s descendants. Kinsman said, “The whisky’s unusually high ABV of 55.2 percent signifies the uniqueness of this precious, cask-strength liquid. It is a true connoisseur’s choice and with a host of evocative flavours and subtle aromas, it marks another milestone in our pioneering history.”
